One of the Sultanate’s strategies for economic diversification in Oman’s Vision 2040, by investing in the fish wealth that the Sultanate abounds in. AL Wusta Fisheries Industries LLC company, which is the first government company specialized in the commercial fishing sector, is among its investments, as it works to strengthen the sector with its commercial fleet of five vessels targeting Development of pelagic fish stocks.
In addition to Marsa Duqm Investment Company, which is a support company for the fishing sector on the industrial side.

ABOUT OMAN
The Sultanate of Oman has a long maritime history as a trading nation between Eastern Africa, the Indian sub-continent and the Arabian Gulf states. Oman’s 3,165 kilometre coastline gives Omani fishermen access to both the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea and a wide range of both demersal and pelagic fish species. In 2017 the fishermen of Oman landed 347,000 tons of fish which included sardines, tuna species, grouper, kingfish, abalone, and shrimps. Oman is the only net exporter of fish products in the GCC and has ready access to the growing GCC markets, notably UAE and Saudi Arabia, as well as worldwide markets for quality seafood products.
Oman, under the progressive rule of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said has enjoyed a long period of stability and economic growth which actively encourages sustainable development to diversify the economy away from its carbon base. The fisheries sector (both fishing and aquaculture); tourism; logistics; manufacturing and the service sector are all seen a major pillars for the future of Oman and receive extensive governmental support.
